As former President of McGuire and Hester, a subsidiary of Harbor Linx, Mike Hester is instrumental to the success and origins of Harbor Linx. McGuire and Hester was founded by two Irish immigrants, one of which was Mike Hester’s grandfather. As early as grade school, Mike recalls going to work with his dad and handling very important tasks, including sorting bolts in the warehouse. Mike’s responsibilities grew in and out of the warehouse as he got older. He did everything from building barricades for job sites to driving fuel trucks and transport after earning his commercial driver’s license at the age of 18. Mike continued to develop his resume while attending Oregon State University, where he earned his degree in Construction Management.

Upon graduation, he returned to McGuire and Hester as a project engineer and continued to work as an estimator, project manager, and operations manager before being promoted to president in 1990. Mike was instrumental in leading his management team through operational changes and increasing annual revenue from $10 million to more than $200 million. During his presidency, the company transitioned from a family-owned to a 100% employee-owned company. His leadership helped position McGuire and Hester as one of California’s most respected heavy civil engineering and commercial site services companies.

In 2022, after working side by side nearly his entire career with Executive President of Operations Brock Grunt, Mike was happy to hand the reigns of McGuire and Hester over to Brock and step into his new role at Harbor Linx. As Executive Vice President, Mike will provide expertise with merger and acquisition opportunities, execute philanthropic strategy and focus, be responsible for business development, and oversee employee engagement for the Harbor Linx family of companies.
